Well, hello again. For this issue, we decided to keep it practical. Real tips for all dads, travelers, and office slaves with a little help from our AI overlords.

Thanks to our readers for all the positive feedback on our first three editions!

Become the World’s Greatest AI Dad.
With Jan.

I’m just about to write an article for our Don’t Panic Newsletter that will question the fabric of our universe when my 4-year-old waltzes into our home office and declares that my working day is officially over. My new assignment. “Make Unicorns!!!!” – Here we go again.

For the next 30 minutes, we dream up the wildest descriptions for ChatGPT, which somehow always include pink, sparkles, rainbows, mysterious creatures, and something called a Pinkie Pie to create an illustrated bedtime story with Midjourney.

Here is how it works:

  1. Go to ChatGPT and ask for a bedtime story incl. whatever obsession your kid is currently into. i.e. Pinky Pie.

  2. Let your kid participate so she gets a sense of ownership.

  3. Find the key moments of the story and feed Midjourney to illustrate it.

  4. Print out your masterpiece on recycled paper (no screen time in bed).

  5. Sing an AI-generated lullaby and become the World’s greatest AI Dad.

It’s bedtime! I’m unsure if she couldn’t bear my singing, but my little Pinkie Pie looked happy and fast asleep. It worked!

Now I can return to write this article until the wee hours. No ChatGPT is allowed at Don’t Panic, so it’s gonna be tough. Good thing I can rely on GeorgGPT to make me sound smarter than I am.

Thinking about it, I am getting really excited to make Pinkie Pie into a book.

Should you panic?

Everything that saves me from singing “Raven Sock” for the 1 millionth time is a sure winner for me.

Master Boring Meeting Minutes.
With Tom.

Let me in on a little secret here. When a work meeting is too boring, and it rambles on and on for eternity, I sort of … zone out. I nod along, yes, but my mind seems to go on autopilot, and I am only in full control of my bodily functions when it’s all finally over, and I stop recording with the “MacWhisper” app.

MacWhisper App? Let me explain.

“MacWhisper” is a fascinating AI model based on OpenAI’s Whisper model that can convert speech from ONE HUNDRED languages into text, using a file of only 500MB (!). You can download Whisper here. (Link mac / Link PC) Pair the app with ChatGPT to summarize the call and gain a new superpower: No more procrastination over a boring task when meeting minutes can be done in an instant.

Here is how it works:

  1. Ask meeting participants if you can record the meeting.

  2. Press the record button on your Whisper app.

  3. Once the meeting is finished, copy and paste the text into ChatGPT and ask for meeting minutes.

  4. Revise what needs to be revised, it’s about 96% accurate but needs a bit of polishing.

  5. Send to all meeting participants just a moment after the call and shine.

Should you panic?

AI tools give me a sense of achievement. With the time gained, I am able to do the things I actually like: ideating together with my colleague, rather than having to do the things I despise: repetitive work, meeting minutes, summaries, follow-ups, etc.

As I am now usually the first to send anything, whether it’s an idea, a meeting summary, or a proposal, I have the “first mover” advantage, and it helps with my procrastination too. A big thumbs up from me.

Create your own Travel Guide.
With Georg.

I can’t be bothered to read travel guides. I usually just point my finger at a map, and then I stumble into the scenery. Does this make me a terrible tourist? Probably. The good thing is that I don’t miss anything because I simply don’t know any better, the bad thing is that I don’t tap into the potential of my real interests.

So, on a recent trip to Bilbao, Spain, I thought to try out something new and ask ChatGPT to make me a travel itinerary based on my interest.

This is how it went.

@dont.panic.ai I asked ChatGPT to make a personalized travel guide for Bilbao Spain #Ai #chatgpt #travel #bilbaospain🇪🇦 #dontpanic #newsletter ♬ original sound - Don’t Panic

How to create your own Travel Guide”

  1. Ask ChatGPT to make a personal travel guide based on your interest and time. Mine is Art and Design.

  2. Make sure you ask for all the addresses and optimize for a route so you can walk without making circles.

  3. Ask for a budget.

  4. If you don’t like any of the suggestions, revise.

How did it go?

Pretty well, apart from the moment an armed officer in a governmental building assured me that this was not the place I was looking for.

Should you panic?

If you are Lonely Planet, Yes.

A new commons sense.

Each week, we bid farewell to a universal truth challenged by AI.

This week: R.I.P – The early bird catches the worm

This proverb means that you have a better chance of success if you start something sooner than later. However, with AI, some tasks might be done faster and better by machines than by humans, making the time of day less relevant or even disadvantageous for human workers. That said, check Tom’s “Whisper”-hack above… it sometimes still makes sense to be the very first mover anyway 🙂

That’s it for this fourth newsletter. Please do let us know what you think and Don’t Panic.
